The summer months are an ideal time to make improvements to your home. Whether it has been years since it was last maintained or it has undergone damage from the weather, checking on your roof keeps water and other elements from harming the rest of your home. Here are a few steps to changing out the shingles.
Remove Old Shingles
Once you have your receptacle from the roll off dumpster manufacturer florida, use a hammer to pull the old shingles off the roof. Be careful when you toss them to your yard below. If you are careless where you throw them, you will leave nails all over the grass where others can step on them. Remove every layer until you are to the bare wood then ensure all the nails are removed or hammered back into the roof. Inspect the gutters and drip edge while you are there to see if these need to be replaced as well.
Install the First Layer
Roll out the underlayment across the area. You will need to peel off the top layer as you apply it so that it will adhesive to the wood as you go. Cut it free from the roll with a utility knife or scissors then set down the next layer. Overlap a few inches each time you stick it to your roof to ensure that it seals out the water and snow. This protects the interior of your home from leaks.
Apply Felt Paper
When you have the sticky paper down, peel the top layer off to expose the adhesive on that side. Spool out the felt paper over it as you did the first layer you laid down. Be sure to smooth it out flat to eliminate any gaps that moisture can get into. You should overlap this paper also as you did the underlayment.
